A portrait of British Mathematician AlanTuring is created by a humanoid robot Ai- Da which became a groundbreaker in art and technology. ‘AI God’ titled work, sold out for an impressive amount of$ 1.08 million at Sotheby’s auction house in New York. The pre estimated amount was about $ 120,000 to $ 180,000.
Ai- Da world’s foremost humanoid and first ultra realistic robot crafted this portrait with 2.2 meters (7.5 feet) tall.The AI robot is well equipped in creative arts and technological conversations.
So the by viewed ‘AI God’ as a milestone indicating the increased overlap between AI and art works. In a statement, Sotheby’s remarked, “Today’s record-breaking sale price for the first artwork by a humanoid robot artist to go up for auction marks a moment in the history of modern and contemporary art.”
AI-Da can give responses using AI features.She said, “The key value of my work is its capacity to serve as a catalyst for emerging technologies.” She also added ‘portrait of pioneer Alan Turing invites viewers to reflect on the god-like nature of AI and computing while considering the ethical and societal implications of these advancements.’
Alan Turing, the portrayed person, is one of the early celebrated computer science scientist. His major contribution was inthe breaking down of Nazi codes during World War II along with the great contribution towards early computer technology. Turing also expressed hisconcerns in Artificial Intelligence in the early 1950s by pointing out the ethical implications in advanced computing.
Aidan Meller, creator of Ai-Da stated the robot was suggested to create the image of Turing. The cameras in the eyes ofAi-Da captured the images for processing and creating the works. The robot was the product of the collaboration between Meller and AI experts at Oxford andBirmingham Universities. The robot is programmed to generate ideas from conversations between people.
Ai-Da can be considered as a remarkable blend of creativity and machine learning. ‘AI God’ helped to open the new possibilities of AI and its role in human society.
